Christmas stocking gift

Best surprise gift

Anytime is gift time, but this holiday season as we scurry around looking for the perfect gift, consider an adopted kitten from the Animal Shelter.
When it is so cold outside, many animals will be cold, hungry and all alone.
They give so much and ask so little.
How about one, for your Christmas stocking?

This is our little Christmas blessing.

Hybrid

A Different Kind of House Cat
Hybrid
Our son Bob brought us a kitten. We both have a soft spot for the little fellows. We could have a dozen of them.
This one was different. It is a hybrid, half Manx and half Siamese.
Her name is Kattie. Big blue eyes, milk chocolate in color, with the tan and black markings of the Siamese Dad. No tail like the Manx mother.
Kattie has no idea she is a cat. We were going to tell her when she got older. Now she is a year old and we can’t tell her. She would never believe it.
She is like no other cat I know. She doesn’t want to be held, don’t rub up on your legs, or get under your feet.
She will let you pet her when she wants to. This is not optional.
She hates cats. She will look at them if they are outside the window.
Kattie is strictly a house pet. She is afraid of the outside. She is traumatized each time you have to take her out.

True Love

She doesn’t need to talk. She can tell you what she wants and will lead you to it, if you
don’t understand what she is telling you.
The other night was a real challenge. She would not shut up. In the kitchen was something she wanted. We went through the list of obvious things. Food-no-water-no-toys-no. Finally when she kept looking at the ceiling light, we saw a miller flying around. She hates bugs. When the miller was gone, she trotted off to do something else.
Kattie loves our son Bob. She is his alarm clock in the morning, and can’t wait to get him out of bed. She will cry and roll all over the floor until he says ok, get up in the window seat and I will pet you. With a snap of a finger, she trots off to the seat to get petted.
The rest of us try this and she just acts stupid. What do you mean snapping your fingers at me? She will only do this for Bob.

Sad Kattie

Recently Bob had to go to California for several days. Kattie moped around the house.
When he called home, we put him on the speaker phone. Kattie, from another room came running at the sound of his voice. Meow, meow, meow, trying to climb up my leg to get to Bob’s voice. When she could not find him on the phone, she looked all under the table, talking as she went, meow, meow, and meow. I told Bob that Kattie was trying to talk to him. He could not believe it. When I held the phone to her Bob said, hi Kattie, how is my baby? She meowed to him on the phone. This is true love.
When I cook a roast, turkey, or bar-b-que ribs, she just knows they are for her. She waits
all day and tells you she is ready to eat them. The other day she just knew she wanted sour kraut and wieners. I tried to tell her, but she wouldn’t listen. So I let her have a plate of them. One smell, she blinked her eyes, laid back her ears and flew out of the kitchen.

MY SPACE

The Good Life

Modern RV’s have changed the face and the requirements of camping.
No longer do you have to worry about if there will be fresh water nearby or a bathroom.
It will be riding right behind you.
It is a convenient way to travel a long distance or week-end escapes.
There are many options for RV enthusiasts from “boondocks’, pullovers with no hookups to full service RV parks. RV parks with beautiful grounds, pool and spa, laundry room, club house and ice cream socials.
Nearly every town has at least one RV Park.
You can join the Good Sam, and other facilities that supply the books, with list of all the RV parks in the states, as well as Mexico and Canada.
There are as many places to park as there are places to go.
Some folks have made RV-ing a full time endeavor. These avid RV-ers in their big rigs may have given up their homes for the luxury of a mobile apartment that travels with them.
There are many things to think about when purchasing the first RV. Size and Price are the easy ones.
The most important one is your life style. RV-ing probably won’t suit you if you enjoy the home body lifestyle.
Next is what do you want to do? Visit relatives or visit this great country of ours.
It is all up to you to make the right choices.
The thought of not having a home to come home to and obligations keeps us taking shorter trips and more times a year.
It is a fun and educational way to see the country on your own schedule and price range.
Most all Rv parks let you bring your pets. Many people travel with them. We travel with our 4 footed human whom you will hear about later. Her name is Kattie but she thinks princess fits her better.

CHAPEL OF THE HOLY CROSS

MAGNET in the ROCKS

When you see this beautiful church, high on the hill top, it draws you like a magnet.
Not knowing is open daily, we never went to investigate it.
This trip to Sedona, Az. We inquired about it and found out that they have service on
Sunday but you can visit anytime.

Cactus plants

It is a steep climb from the parking lot to the Chapel of the Holy Cross, they do allow someone to drop you off and go back down the hill and park.
With flowers, cactus and shrubbery it is a pretty place to visit.
It is well worth your time to at least drive by and see if you don’t think, this is like a magnet in the rocks.

LAKE POWELL UTAH

Lake Powell

Glen Canyon Dam

If it was not for Glen Canyon Dam, there would be no lake Powell.
Construction of the 587 foot concrete dam began in 1956.
In 1958 some 24 square miles of Navajo tribal land were exchanged for a larger tract in Utah. Making the room needed for the back-up water that formed Lake Powell.
It took seven years to construct this massive dam.
The Glen Canyon Bridge over the dam and Colorado River is 700 feet above the water. Making this the second-highest, steel-arched bridge in the world.
Located on the Utah, Arizona border the dam was completed in 1963.
Lake Powell began to fill with back water and took 17 years to fill to capacity. The lake was drawing crowds well before it was full.
Lake Powell is the 2nd largest reservoir in North America. It is 186 miles long with 2000 miles of shoreline, 96 side canyons, hundreds of inlets, and cove shelters with Indian ruins. All waiting for you to explore.

Like no other Lake

Lake Powell is a pristine house boat destination. Boats of all kinds and sizes can be rented. Manny people from the surrounding states bring their own boats to Lake Powell to play in sun. Lake Powell offers an adventure for everyone.
It is a stocked lake for fishing with large mouth bass, rainbow trout, and walleye pike to name a few. This year the water level is up 53 feet making it bigger and more enjoyable than it has been in many drought years. This has made new caves and canyons to investigate. Fishing is said to be much improved as well.
Lake Powell is like no other place. Picture a clear day, blue sky, sunshine, boats zipping over glossy green water against a back drop of glowing red sand stone cliffs. With water so clear it reflects the cliffs on the water so you are unable to tell where the cliffs end and the water begin.
With no beachfront hotels, restaurants, or shops once you leave the marina, this is a place relinquish your stress and to rejuvenate your perceptions,

Carved from Rock

Be sure to stop at the Glen Canyon Dam Visitors Center. See what an engineering marvel this dam is. Take a guided tour to see just how the dam works and how thick the concrete walls have to be to hold back this much water.
