Route 66, " The Mother Road", "The Main Street of America".
Route 66 is 2448 miles long and was commissioned in 1926. At first only the first 800 miles were paved. By 1937 with more people traveling, all of Route 66 was completed.
Route 66 crosses 8 states and 3 time zones.  Starting in Chicago and ending in Los Angeles, California.
It goes through Chicago, Springfield, St. Louis,Tulsa, Oklahoma City, Amarillo, Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Flagstaff, and L A.
You can not drive all of Route 66 anymore, it has been covered over by Interstate highways. Surprisingly a high amount of the old road is still there. It inter winds through the cities.
We have traveled part of Route 66, just the  eastern states we have missed. Chicago, Springfield and St Louis.
Most of these cities have fixed up the older parts of town and have a lot of Route 66 stories to tell and collectable's. Doing this has revitalized the down town areas, with so many businesses moving to the outside malls.
Route 66, was the title of a TV sitcom in 1960. Has a song named after it also.
Get your kicks on Route 66.
