The History of Jackson Hole, Wyoming
Before the 1800’s the only people who traveled into Jackson Hole were Native Americans. They spent summers hunting wildlife to take back to their winter lodges.
By 1803 Lewis and Clark were sent to explore the west, on their way to the Pacific Ocean.
Lewis and Clark found trappers in this area, trapping for beaver pellets, which were used to make fashionable, hat wear.
They had such success that the word got out and men like Jim Bridger, Jedediah Smith, William Sublette and David Jackson were among the trappers to come to the Jackson area.
