The Naming of Jackson Hole
By 1829 David Jackson gave the area the name, Jackson Hole. The hole indicated a high valley surrounded by mountains.
In 1804 the town of Jackson Hole acquired a plan for streets and permanent settlements.
Some of the same old buildings remain, in the down town Jackson Hole area today.
The wooden sidewalks that surround the Town Square are part of the Jackson Hole’s colorful history.
The elk antler arch, on the square, celebrates magnificent wildlife of the area.
