All about Being Green

In the big business crusade to be greener than the other guy, plastic bags have become a big issue.
Environmentalists are encouraging retailers to discourage the use of plastic bags.
Present plastic bags, made of thin flexible plastic film, are clogging landfills and don’t readily decompose.
The have been known to suffocate children, pets, wildlife, and sea critters.
The infamy of the no biodegradable plastic shopping bag is recent and every one is getting on the band wagon nation wide.
The bag will be banned altogether in San Francisco this fall and similar embargoes are being considered by other jurisdictions.
A low in California went into effect this month requiring large grocery stores and other large retailers to recycle plastic bags returned by customers and offer reusable canvas bags for purchase.
The reusable canvas sack which we will have to buy range from 59 cents to 3.00 dollars.
The world uses a trillion plastic bags a year, unfortunally most end up in the trash, ocean, and trees.
The US is behind the curve compared to other countries. In many places shoppers carry reusable bags as a way of life.
The decision at the checkout line has always been: plastic or paper?
The new answer will be to bring your own reusable canvas or purchase one or more at the store.
At first the store will ask you to pay an additional 5 cents for every bag they put your groceries in.
Then the stores will have to phase in the canvas reusable bags.
So the reusable bags will not be so bad for the person who is shopping for the day or one meal. But what about the people who shop for a week or a month at a time?
How will you carry around that many canvas reusable bags?
What are your thoughts on this matter?
