REFLECTIONS OF 911
Another anniversary, it is five year’s since THE day.
Does it matter what year it is? Year 1, 5, 10 or 25, we will never forget.
Even living clear across the United States from New York city we were frightened at all of the possibilities that could happen.
We lived in fear that we would have repercussions here in Salt Lake city, Utah .
We held out breath as the 2002 Winter Olympics approached looking forward to them in exhilaration and dread.
We live in the Salt Lake valley, between two mountain ranges. From the first day of the Olympics, two fully armed F-16’s went from South to North up and down the Valley It was such a comfort to know we were being protected every time they passed over our house.
Behind the scenes, we learned of more security at work. Every time an air plane came with in the air space of the Salt Lake International Airport or any of the Olympic venues the pilot had to have a code password to enter or fly over the area.
When one Mexican airlines pilot forgot his password, when ask, the plane was escorted by four, F-16’s and forced to land, and the plane searched ,before they could continue to Cancun.
It was useless to worry about what may or may not happen, so we trusted The United States Air Force to do the worrying for us.
All went well and the Olympics was a huge success.
No one will ever forget, our lives will remain for ever changed by the tragedy.
