BOOM AND GLOW
Boom and Glow
It will happen tonight, a NASA-made light show.
The Stardust mission samples return canister is expected to brighten the morning skies.
The Stardust will be streaking towards a landing spot in the Utah west desert.
At 2:57 am on Sunday the capsule will zing through the atmosphere at 28,860 mph.
1 minute later the heat shield reaches peak temperature at 4,900 degrees.
3:01 am the main chute deploys.
At 6,000 feet above the desert a drogue chute will open followed by the main parachute.
A locater beacon will start transmitting.
It will make a 10 mph landing where it will be recovered.
Here in Salt lake City, Utah it is cold and cloudy. So will you be able to see the re-entry glow or just hear the sonic boom?
