Old Faithful
The utterly amazing geyser, of the Yellowstone National Park.
In the Upper Geyser Basin, with the largest concentration of geysers in the world.
The most famous of course being Old Faithful which is known through out the world.
Erupting more frequently than any of the other big geysers, it is the most popular.
Eruptions are about every 91 minutes, but that varies from day to day.
Just prior to eruption the water temperature will reach 204 degrees F.
The eruption lasts from 1 ½ minutes to 5 minutes, expelling 3700 to 8400 gallons of water and reaching heights of 106 to 184 feet.
It was named Old Faithful in 1870 for its consistent performance.
There is always some variation of time between eruptions. It could be sooner or later than expected. The park rangers post an about time for the day.
Once the eruption starts the jetting will grow, stop and grow again in 2 or 3 steps before reaching maximum height. It takes about 3o seconds to reach full height.
We had a hard time catching it on the camera, but it was worth the wait.
Don’t be the one to miss this when you go to Yellowstone.
