BLOOD PRESURE FACTS
A New Startling Fact on Blood Pressure
Most Americans blood pressure goes up with age. This brings with it a big risk of heart attack and stroke.
Understanding Blood Pressure
Blood pressure fluctuates; you may need several readings at different times of the day to get your average reading.
Always sit for at least 15 minutes before taking the reading to get it accurate.
Making Since of It
There are two numbers; the high one (systolic) gives the pressure of blood against the artery walls while the heart is beating.
The low number (diastolic) is the pressure between beats of the heart. Both numbers are important.
Is it too high or to low?
Any readings above 140/90 talk to your Doctor. Any reading that is above 120/80 means you are at risk of a heart attack or stroke.
When your pressure is 140/90 and more, it means that your arteries are tightening up, your heart has to strain to push the blood through. There is much wear and tear on your arteries.
Low blood pressure is 90/60 as a guide.
If you do nothing to reduce your blood pressure it will more than likely continue to rise.
You may feel fine. That is why they call it the silent killer.
Helping Your Self to Live Longer
Hold the salt is the one easy thing for you to do.
The sodium in salt cause the body to retain extra fluid, this causes the arteries to tighten up.
Your daily salt need is ¼ teaspoon a day. It is ok to have more but not wise to do so.
When starting to cut down for the first time, do it gradually. Stop adding salt at the table. Use other seasonings to cook with.
Lemon, Mrs. Dash, herbs and garlic. Cut your daily intake by ½ of the amount you now use.
Avoid salty things like, bacon, ham, processed lunch meat, pickles and chips. Food at the café is usually high in salt content.
